Recent jobs
Three houses from this winter

Insurance sign-off nine days after the first call.
A Lakeview bungalow still on fuses
A screw-in fuse box from 1958, and an insurer who wanted it gone before the new owners could close.

A full battery by morning, even at minus 35.
A charger for a garage across the yard
The garage in Harbour Landing sat 22 metres from the panel. We trenched conduit in October, before the ground froze, and mounted the charger in January.

Passed rough-in and final on the first visit each.
A legal suite in White City
A secondary suite needed its own subpanel, interconnected alarms and a separate furnace switch before the town would sign off occupancy.
Our lights dimmed every time the furnace kicked in. They found a loose neutral up at the mast that two other outfits missed, fixed it for the number on the quote, and texted me photos of the panel before they closed it up.

Panel day
Off at breakfast, back on by supper
What the day looks like from inside the house.
7:30 am
SaskPower cuts the service
We meet their crew at the meter. Keep the freezer shut and the old panel comes off the wall.
9 am
New panel on the wall
Every circuit is traced, labelled and landed. Anything unsafe we find, you hear about before we touch it.
1 pm
Ready for inspection
Grounding and bonding checked against the code book, and the permit paperwork filled in on site.
4 pm
Lights back on
SaskPower reconnects, we test every circuit with you, and the old panel leaves in our van.
Everything else
The rest of the house
Smaller work is billed by the hour, with the estimate written down before we start.
Trips, flickers and dead outlets
Breakers that trip, lights that flicker and outlets that quit after the last cold snap, traced to the cause.
Block heater and garage circuits
Outdoor outlets on their own breaker, timers so the car warms up at five, and garage heaters wired properly.
Hot tubs and heat trace
A dedicated GFCI circuit for the tub, and heat trace on the eavestroughs and water lines that freeze every February.
Knob and tube replacement
Room by room rewiring in pre-war homes around Cathedral and the Crescents, with the plaster patched behind us.
Generator interlocks
An inlet and interlock so a portable generator can run the furnace, the fridge and the sump when the grid goes down.
Renovation wiring
Kitchens, pot lights and bathroom fans wired to code, on your contractor's schedule rather than ours.
The crew
Seven electricians, four vans, no commission.
Coldstart started in 2011 with one van and a winter of block heater calls. We still do homes only, and when you call about a job we did, the same electrician comes back.
Nobody here is paid by the job, so nobody is in a hurry to get to the next one. If a fix takes an extra hour to do properly, it takes the extra hour.

Licensing
Licensed, permitted and on paper
In Saskatchewan, EV chargers and generator hookups can only go in under a licensed electrical contractor. We hold the licence, and we pull a permit on every job, whatever its size.
Licensed electrical contractor
Licensed through the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan, with the surety bond the licence requires.
A permit copy before we start
You get the TSASK permit before any work begins, and the inspection result when it closes.
Red Seal journeypersons
Every job is led by a Red Seal journeyperson. Apprentices work beside one, never alone.
WCB and liability cover
Saskatchewan WCB coverage and $5 million in liability insurance, certificates sent with the quote.
Five-year workmanship warranty
If something fails because of how we installed it, we come back and fix it at no charge.
Police-checked crew
Everyone who comes into your home has a current criminal record check on file.
Book the panel before the next cold snap.
Quote visits are free inside city limits and take about forty minutes. Most get booked within the week.
Quote visits
Start with a photo
Send a photo of your panel with the door open and we can usually price the job before we visit. We reply the same working day.
